“Children learn more from what you are than what you teach.” -W.E.B. DuBois

We work hard to intentionally transform the trajectory of our scholars and the Pico/Union community through a safe and supportive school community focused on college readiness. We do this in partnership with parents and families and by holding high expectations for our scholars, staff and students.

We believe that the mission-driven educators in our classrooms who influence and impact the lives of each and every scholar on the journey to and through college are the heroes of this work. Thus, we highly value our teachers and their development and offer our teachers consistent feedback, coaching support, weekly professional development, a structured environment, and a competitive salary with strong benefits.

At Equitas Academy, we intentionally transform the lives of our scholars through their academic and character educations. We believe that no single factor impacts their success more than the quality of their teachers. In creating the best, most collaborative, most reflective team of teachers possible, we also want to be intentional and authentic about creating a teaching staff that reflects our scholars and how they move through the world. We believe it is our duty and honor to prepare our scholars to be active citizens who engage in the work of  and transforming their own communities—in addition to getting a degree from a four-year college or university. We are seeking to hire teachers and staff from the same or similar communities to join us in this work and be role models for our scholars. We are committed to building and supporting a teaching force that includes strong representation from teachers of color and members of the LGBTQ community. We welcome and strongly encourage all applicants who are committed to the mission that all students deserve a chance to transform their future and their community through public education.
