Our Enrollment Process

Applications open in October and close in March for annual lotteries

  1. Lotteries take place in March and rolling applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis

  2. Families can accept their seat and register beginning the second week of March

  3. Orientations take place in July 

  4. School begins in August!

Equitas Academy Charter Schools are tuition-free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools. Students are accepted regardless of background, academic record, or special education eligibility on a first-come, first-served basis. If more students apply than spaces are available, students are admitted by lottery.

Equitas Academy Schools are open to all students in California. Completing this form does not guarantee admission to Equitas Academy. Admission priority will first be given to siblings of currently enrolled students and children of teachers and staff (up to a cap of 10% of enrollment); further admissions priority will be given to students who live within the boundaries of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Admission will be granted to students whose names are drawn in the lottery to be held in March of every year at each Equitas Academy school site. All other applicants will be placed on a waiting list in the order their names are drawn.The waiting list will not carry over from year to year. Students who do not attend the school must fill out a new application in future years. Please check the website at www.equitasacademy.org for further information. Equitas Academy Schools do not require a parent/legal guardian/student to provide information regarding a student’s disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, legal or economic status, primary language or English Learner status, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic that is contained in the definition of hate crimes set forth in section 422.55 of the Penal Code, or any other information that would violate federal or state law, prior to admission, participation in any admissions or attendance lottery, or pre-enrollment event or process, or as a condition of admission or enrollment.

Equitas Academy Schools do not request or require submission of a student’s IEP, 504 Plan, or any other record or related information prior to admission, participation in any admissions or attendance lottery, or pre-enrollment event or process, or as a condition of admission or enrollment.

CHARTER SCHOOL COMPLAINT NOTICE
California Education Code Requirements

California Education Code Section 47605(d)(4) states the following:

A charter school shall not discourage a pupil from enrolling or seeking to enroll in a charter school for any reason, including, but not limited to, academic performance of the pupil or because the pupil exhibits any of the following characteristics:

  • Academically low-achieving

  • Economically disadvantaged (determined by eligibility for any free or reduced price meal program)

  • English learner

  • Ethnicity

  • Foster Youth

  • Homeless

  • Nationality

  • Neglected or delinquent

  • Race

  • Sexual orientation

  • Students with disabilities

A charter school shall not request a pupil's records or require the parent, guardian, or pupil to submit the pupil's records to the charter school before enrollment.

A charter school shall not encourage a pupil currently attending the charter school to disenroll from the charter school or transfer to another school for any reason (except for suspension or expulsion).

This notice shall be posted on a charter school's internet website and a charter school will provide copies of this notice (1) when a parent, guardian, or pupil inquires about enrollment; (2) before conducting an enrollment lottery, and (3) before disenrollment of a pupil.
