Alma Barrera Garcia
Community Schools Coordinator
I became an educator because of my own challenging experiences navigating the educational system alone. Those experiences inspired me to be a meaningful part of students' educational journeys and ensure they feel seen, heard, and valued.
Prior to Equitas, I was in graduate school at SDSU! Before that I was working at a nonprofit in Oakland, where I worked in collaboration with Skyline High School to mentor a classroom of high school girls and teach them about social emotional practices, Chicano studies, and Latinx culture and identity.
I chose Equitas because of its strong commitment to the community and its dedication to supporting and uplifting the whole child and their family.
Outside of school, I enjoy sharing hobbies with my partner and cuddling with my cat, Bambi.
