Bobby Canosa-Carr Bio

In his role as Managing Director of Schools, Bobby is committed to providing the support necessary for every Equitas Academy leader to nurture compassionate, equitable, and impactful learning communities.

Before joining the Equitas Academy team, Bobby led the turnaround of a high school in Los Angeles and subsequently founded an innovative charter school in his hometown of San Pedro. He is a pioneer in personalized & project-based learning, restorative practices, and mindfulness in schools. In his work in the nonprofit sector, Bobby designed and facilitated professional development for more than 300 schools across 40 states as they engaged in school transformation. While serving as the board president for CIF Los Angeles City Section, he led the implementation of reforms that increased gender equity and physical safety for student athletes.

Bobby earned his bachelor's degree from UC Irvine and his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from CSU Northridge. He trained as an executive coach in Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformational Leadership, and he is a certified mindfulness instructor. He also studied at UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, USC, and the National University of Ireland in Galway.

Bobby is happiest when he’s physically active and connected to nature. On any given weekend, you might find him climbing boulders in Joshua Tree, running near the beach with his German shepherd, or riding his Harley Davidson up a winding coastal road.
