Jose Iniguez serves our scholars and their families as the Director of High School Preparation and Alumni Programs. Mr. Iniguez is the first in his family to attend and graduate from college! Born in East LA and raised in the small Central California farm town of Tulare, he learned to navigate the difficult pathway to college, the norm for many first-generation students of color like him, because of strong mentors and culturally relevant resources. Thanks to that, and a firm belief in his ability to challenge the status quo, he graduated with a BA in Sociology from UCLA and received his Masters in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Mr. Iniguez most recently served as Senior Program Manager at City Year Los Angeles, where he helped implement school transformation efforts that empowered students to get back on track to graduate high school. Previously, he led youth efforts in digital media and activism at MTV, Participant Media, and Swipe Out Hunger. He believes every scholar at Equitas will be great with the proper support and resources from their community, and that’s exactly why he’s here! Mr. Iniguez welcomes all Equitas family members to meet with him to learn more about pathways to college graduation—porque si se puede!
