Dear Equitas Families,

I write to you today as my heart aches for the injustice we are living through. Injustice and inequality against the black community continue to prevail and are deeply rooted in our society. The tragedies against George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and many more are appalling and unacceptable at all levels. Our black brothers and sisters are in pain. Our society is in pain. We are in pain. I am in pain.

Our organization stands for equity and fairness. We represent the meaning behind our organization and together, we take a stance against injustice and stand in solidarity and partnership with the black community. We are a human race, and the color of our skin should never, ever, determine how we live...if we live.

It is important that we name our outrage and decry what is unacceptable. We must build perspective, empathize, reflect, and learn. We can teach our scholars about the oppressive and systemic racism in our society. We can listen and understand the story of our black brothers and sisters and what they continue to face. We must teach our scholars that they can be a part of a world that values all human beings.

We are living through a very difficult time, the most difficult our generation has experienced because of the global pandemic. We are also living through a time where our society is deeply aching because we are not unified as a human race.

I call to you…I call to us…to operate through the lens of perspective, empathy, compassion, and intentionality. When one hurts, we all hurt. Our words are important, but we must show up for each other in solidarity and partnership. It must come through our own reflections, experiences with our scholars, friends, and family members.

We are committing to being the kind of school community that offers a counter narrative to the anti-black rhetoric that is embedded in our societal history

We are committing to encouraging our scholars to wonder about the oppressive and systemic racism in our society
We are committing to teaching our scholars that the color of our skin should never, ever, determine how we live or if we live.

As we engage in the first week of June, three weeks from the closing of our academic school year, I know we enter it grounded by our mission at Equitas. Let's also enter it re-committed to change the world, change today, and change tomorrow. It starts with us and will prevail through our children.

Equitas stands in love, solidarity, unity, and action in support of our black brothers and sisters.

Les escribo hoy mientras me duele el corazón por la injusticia que estamos viviendo. La injusticia y la desigualdad contra la comunidad Afro-americana continúan prevaleciendo y están profundamente arraigadas en nuestra sociedad. Las tragedias contra George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor y muchos más son terribles e inaceptables en todos los niveles. Nuestros hermanos y hermanas Afro-americanos están sufriendo. Nuestra sociedad está sufriendo. Todos tenemos dolor. Yo tengo dolor.

Nuestra organización es sinónimo a justicia e igualdad. Representamos el significado en nuestra organización y, juntos, adoptamos una postura contra la injusticia y nos solidarizamos y colaboramos con la comunidad Afro-americana. Somos una raza humana, y el color de nuestra piel nunca, nunca debería determinar cómo vivimos ... si vivimos.

Es importante nombrar nuestra indignación y denunciar lo que es inaceptable. Debemos construir una perspectiva, empatizar, reflexionar y aprender. Podemos enseñar a nuestros estudiantes sobre el racismo opresivo y sistémico en nuestra sociedad. Podemos escuchar y comprender la historia de nuestros hermanos y hermanas Afro-americanos y lo que siguen enfrentando. Debemos enseñar a nuestros estudiantes que pueden ser parte de un mundo que valora a todos los seres humanos.

Estamos viviendo un momento muy difícil, el más difícil que ha experimentado nuestra generación debido a la pandemia mundial. También estamos viviendo un momento en el que nuestra sociedad sufre profundamente porque no estamos unificados como raza humana.

Les llamo a Uds.... y llamo a nosotros ... a operar a través de la lente de la perspectiva, la empatía, la compasión y la intencionalidad. Cuando uno duele, a todos nos duele. Nuestras palabras son importantes, pero debemos mostrar el uno al otro en solidaridad y asociación. Debe venir a través de nuestras propias reflexiones, experiencias con nuestros estudiantes, amigos y familiares.

Nos comprometemos a ser el tipo de comunidad escolar que ofrece una narrativa contraria a la retórica anti-Afro-americana que está integrada en nuestra historia social.
Nos comprometemos a alentar a nuestros estudiantes a preguntarse sobre el racismo opresivo y sistémico en nuestra sociedad.
Nos comprometemos a enseñar a nuestros estudiantes que el color de nuestra piel nunca debe determinar cómo vivimos o si vivimos.

A llegar a la primera semana de junio, y tres semanas al cierre de nuestro año escolar académico, yo sé que entramos basados en nuestra misión de Equitas. También entramos en él compromiso de cambiar el mundo, cambiar hoy y cambiar mañana. Comienza con nosotros y prevalecerá a través de nuestros hijos.

Equitas apoya el amor, la solidaridad, la unidad y la acción en apoyo de nuestros hermanos y hermanas Afro-americanos.
