Manuel currently serves as a clinical associate professor and director of the Institute of School Leadership and Administration (ISLA) at Loyola Marymount University. He Joined LMU in August of 2015 after spending the beginning of his career as an elementary and middle school teacher, a principal of a high achieving charter middle school, PUC Lakeview Charter Academy, and most recently the Superintendent for PUC Schools (Valley). Additionally, Manuel also serves as an educational consultant supporting schools throughout Los Angeles and neighboring districts. Manuel is currently a member of the Pahara-Aspen Education Fellowship which is a highly selective and rigorous two-year, cohort-based program that identifies exceptional leaders in the educational excellence and equity movement, facilitates their dynamic growth, and strengthens their collective efforts to dramatically improve public schools, especially those serving low-income children and communities. His research areas include educational leadership preparation, change management and initiative implementation, communities of practice, charter and tradition public school collaboration, and urban school reform.
